2024

December 2024: Juliana Zeidler, Prof. Peter Huy and Prof. Alfred Flint have developed the inverted classroom “Natural Products in Focus: Learning the Basics and Applications Interactively” in a collaboration between organic chemistry and chemistry didactics (in German). The course consists of 18 short videos and is supported by multiple choice questions. Many thanks for support to the Carpe Digitale and the Open University of Rostock. June 2024: Peter has received a teaching award from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences  for his organic chemistry 3b lecture about natural products. Thanks a lot to the student body of the institute of chemistry for this recognition!

 

May 2024: Pupils from all over Germany visit Rostock University! The junior studies program enables pupils to take part in courses and acquire module certificates parallel to their school lessons. Last Saturday, laboratory tours and seminars took place in Rostock. Many thanks to the Junior Studies tutors Anna Köhne, Annika Wolter and Dario Lasch for their support!

 

April 2024: At the Medical Ball 2024 last Saturday (04/27/24), Dr. Gisela Boeck, Dr. Lilian Szych and Prof. Dr. Peter Huy were honored for their commitment to teaching in the course of the module "Fundamentals of Chemistry" at the university medicine. Many thanks to the student council for medicine and Health!

October 2023: We would like to welcome Dario Lasch back after a Master Thesis in the esteemed Group of Vinh Nguyen at the UNSW in Sydney for his PhD! Congratulations to Dario for being awarded with a fellowship of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and thanks a lot for the financial support by the Juniorstudium of our university.

July 2023: We have just returned from the stunning 22nd European Symposium on Organic Chemistry (ESOC), which took place in the picturesque city of Ghent in the heart of Belgium. Thanks to the organizing team for a wonderful conference!

April 2023: We would like to kindly welcome Richard Tröltzsch as new bachelor student in the team and wish him all the best for his thesis about gas surrogates.

January 2023: We would like to welcome Do Thao Thuyen back in the group for her PhD thesis in collaboration with Prof. Ralf Ludwig and wish her the best of success. Thanks a lot to the Rohan SDG Graduate School and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for providing funding!

August 2021:   Our collaborative project “Mit integriertem Lernen neue Wege in der universitären Lehre aufzeigen” / „Application of Blended Learning in University Teaching“ with the group of Prof. Flint has been selected for funding in the course of the promotion fund Carpe Digitale of the Rostocker Online Campus. The enterprise is about the introduction of the inverted classroom in a chemistry course for several hundred medicine students.

 

July 2021: We kindly welcome Mrs. Do Thao Thuyen from Vietnam for a research internship in our laboratories funded by the Rohan Catalysis graduate school. Good Luck with your research endeavours!

June 2021: Peter´s lecture "Organische Chemie für Biowissenschaften" about organic chemistry, which is available on YouTube, has been included in the program of the Juniorstudium of Rostock University. The Juniostudium provides pupils all over Germany the opportunity to participate in university courses!

 

June 2021: Peter has published a report regarding his hybrid teaching experience in Nachrichten aus der Chemie. Many thanks to Frauke Zbikowski from the editorial office for this opportunity and the productive collaboration!

 

June 2021: We would like to welcome Dario as our first bachelor student at Rostock University! We wish him the best of luck for his Bachelor thesis.

May 2021: Our application "Praxis-orientierte Hybridlehre" for funding from the Stiftung Innovation für Hochschulehre for the development and implementation of Hybrid teaching at Rostock University has been granted! We are looking forwar to a fruitful collaboration with the group of Prof. Spengler and the IT and media centre (ITMZ)!

 

May 2021: A concise course  about organic chemistry is published on the YouTube channel of Rostock university unirostock in 14 parts after intensive revision. The video recordings were obtained through the Live-Streaming of Peter´s chemistry lecture for medicine students in the winter term 2020 / 2021. 

May 2021: Thanks to the press office of Rostock university to release a media information regarding our public streaming of lectures!

 

April 2021: Peter´s first lecture is now streamed live and public on YouTube via the channel PeterHuy Lab! The course provides an introduction to organic chemistry.

March 2021: Our application with Prof. Seidel for the promotion fund Carpe Digitale of the Rostocker Online Campus has been successful! The project is about the video recording and streaming of lectures to facilitate courses based on the inverted classroom concept.

2020

November 2020: ChemCatChem just published an Author Interview with Peter!

October 2020: Peter just finished his Habilitation procedure with the inaugural lecture at Saarland University. Many thanks to his mentor Uli Kazmaier and all colleagues and friends at the chemistry department, HIPS and INM for their strong support in the past years!

 

October 2020: On the cover! Our latest ChemCatChem full paper Cover feature has been published. Thanks to the Sandra González-Gallardo and the team of ChemCatChem for the invitation to submit a manscript in the course of the Young Researcher Series!

October 2020: Peter has been appointed as associate professor (W2) for organic chemistry at Rostock university! The ceremony took place in the beautiful capitol of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Schwerin in the ministry of education.

 

September 2020: Just accepted in ACS Catalysis: In-depth mechanistic elucidations of formamide catalyzed nucleophilic substitutions. Great collaboration with the labs of Gerhard Hilt (Oldenburg University) and André Schäfer (Saarland University)!


August 2020: Lewis base catalysis as enabling technology: Our newst manuscript about the activation of alcohols by means of chloroformates as inherently safer phosgene suggorates has been accepted at ChemCatChem and is also highlighted as part of the Young Researcher Series. Congratulations to Ben and Tanja!

July 2020: Two new PhD positions in the area of homogenous catalysis and natural product synthesis and radical chemistry, respectively, are available from October 1st 2020. The application deadline is 24th of July.

 

July 2020: Our group just moved to Rostock University to the Institute for Chemistry!

 

June 2020: Just published in Chem. Eur. J.: Our merger between organo- and transition metal catalysis entitled "Rapid Organocatalytic Formation of Carbon Monoxide: Application towards Carbonylative Cross Couplings". For the first time we have included graphical procedures.

May 2020: In the course of the habilitation procedure Peter gave his scientific talk about "Sulfolipides - Polyhalogenated Toxic Natural Products from Algae".
